WHAT WE’RE WATCHING
🇺🇸 Trump signed an order to create a U.S. sovereign wealth fund. The fund’s goal will be to invest in national projects. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expects it within 12 months. Senator Cynthia Lummis hinted at Bitcoin’s potential role, but Bitcoin’s role in the fund remains unclear.
🇺🇸 The White House will unveil its U.S. crypto strategy in a Feb. 4 press conference led by David Sacks. Key topics include regulatory policies, innovation incentives, and national security. The announcement sparked a slight crypto market recovery, with Bitcoin rebounding ahead of the event.
📈 PlanB's Bitcoin price scenario predicts BTC reaching $150K in February 2025. While his projections for October ($70K) and November ($100K) were accurate, December ($150K) and January ($200K) failed. He still sees February’s $150K target as possible, aligning with his Stock-to-Flow model for 2024-2028.
⚖️ The U.S. Marshals Service missed Senator Cynthia Lummis’ deadline to report on seized Bitcoin holdings. Lummis opposes the sale of 69,370 BTC, citing a $17 billion loss from past sales. She backs a bill for the U.S. Treasury to acquire 200,000 BTC yearly.
📉 MicroStrategy has paused Bitcoin purchases after 12 straight weeks, holding 471,107 BTC worth over $30 billion. The decision follows a recent $1 billion BTC acquisition. Bitcoin briefly dipped below $100K amid U.S. tariff concerns but rebounded above $98K after Mexico delayed tariff impacts.
📊 Analyst Jeff Park predicts Trump’s trade tariffs will push Bitcoin “violently higher” long-term by weakening the U.S. dollar. However, BTC dropped 7.2% this week as markets reacted to tariff concerns. Altcoins fell harder, with ETH, SOL, and XRP down over 11-19%.
