WHAT WE’RE WATCHING
American Bitcoin co-founder Eric Trump.
🇺🇸 Eric Trump-backed American Bitcoin will go public via an all-stock merger with Gryphon Digital Mining. The deal gives existing shareholders, including Donald Trump Jr. and Hut 8, 98% ownership. Shares of Gryphon tripled on the news, with the merger expected to close in Q3 2025.
🇮🇪 Conor McGregor proposed an Irish Bitcoin reserve as part of his 2025 presidential bid. Though not officially nominated, he claims it would “give power to the people’s money.” The pitch follows his failed crypto project and amid ongoing legal controversies and political scrutiny.
🔫 Three teens kidnapped a Las Vegas man at gunpoint, stealing $4M in crypto and NFTs. They threatened to kill his father unless he handed over passwords, then left him in the desert. Two teens face adult charges; a third fled the country. Crypto-related kidnappings are on the rise globally.
📹 PlanB says Bitcoin’s recent V-shaped recovery confirms a bull market, jumping from $82K in March to $104K in May. He cites rising realized prices, strong RSI, and diverging moving averages as signals of continued momentum, projecting potential highs aligned with his stock-to-flow model.
📈 Coinbase will join the S&P 500 on May 19, replacing Discover as it merges with Capital One. Shares jumped 11% after the news, despite a weak Q1 earnings report. Inclusion boosts visibility and access to institutional and passive investors.
💰 Strategy bought 13,390 BTC for $1.34B as Bitcoin crossed $100K. This raised its total holdings to 568,840 BTC and pushed its Bitcoin yield to 15.5%, surpassing its earlier 2025 goal. The firm has now set a new target of 25% yield amid ongoing criticism.
